Afghanistan: Floods Emergency - One-Month Impact Report

Following extreme weather in late March and April 2024, exacerbated by climate change, the situation dramatically worsened across Afghanistan in May with severe flooding across northeastern, northern and western regions of Afghanistan brought on by unprecedented rainfall.

UNHCR and local partners, in close coordination with other UN Agencies, were quick to respond with life-saving assistance. In addition to protection services such as group counselling and psychosocial support, assistance included the distribution of tents, non-food items (NFIs), and clothing to the affected families.

From 17 displacement situations to detailed plans for 50+ country operations, the urgent call for investment is louder than ever, with budgeted needs of $10.622 billion for 2024.

The Global Appeal provides information about UNHCR’s plans for the coming year and the funding it needs to protect, assist and empower a record number of forcibly displaced and stateless people, and to help them find solutions to their situations.
