Water

2019

The water access impact indicator at the end of 2019 was 18.1 litres per person per day against the post emergency/project target of 20 litres per person per day. This indicates that there was a decrease in the amount of water available for asylum-seekers and refugees, a trend attributed to water systems’ optimization through pipeline extensions to underserved villages.

Two main outputs were targeted under the objective: water system constructed, expanded and/or upgraded; and water systems operation maintained. The outputs were aligned with the findings of the 2018 participatory assessment that identified two main determinants underpinning unequal zonal access to potable water across the project location: lack of containers for transportation and storage of water; and long queuing time in some villages, particularly those receiving new arrivals. Key achievements against the outputs included, extension of distribution pipelines to at least six settlements, including installation of tap stands, recurrent operation and maintenance of solar hybrid systems across all settlements.
