Results and impact
Kiryandongo:
- increased water availability from 6 litres per person per day at the beginning of the emergency to 16 litres per person per day. All water supplied came from stable water sources (Boreholes). In addition, 99% of water sources are reachable at a distance of less than 1 km as per the national guidelines.
West Nile:
- By end of 2014, UNHCR in West Nile supplied safe water at an average of 18 litters per person per day against the minimum standard of 20 litters per person per day. As refugees continue arriving, UNHCR in planning to increase the litters of water available by reducing in 50% the costs of distributing water by trucks and finalizing the installation of solar hybrid motorization systems that will increase amount of water available to the standard of 20 litters per person per day within the first months of 2015. Still, more improvements need to be done to enhance the quality of water provided at household levels. An hydrogeological survey was conducted, which improved efficiency of drilling activity. A total of 144 boreholes have been drilled and 11 of them are motorized in all refugee settlements. In addition to that 32 boreholes are also drilled for the host community.
