In the Republic of Moldova, statelessness determination system is still new and requires further attention. UNHCR devoted limited resources to training and monitoring the new statelessness determination apparatus, failed to make a gaps analysis and document lessons learned. A better analysis would help to further develop and improve the existing system and use it as a model in the subregion and beyond.
Though there are certain improvements in the provision of statistics related to stateless people in Belarus, only cumulative figures are provided by the Government reflecting the number of stateless person per region of Belarus, whereas a breakdown of the stateless population by age and gender would better inform UNHCR’s interventions.
