2017
There are some 13,000 Turkish refugees living in northern Iraq. On 19 October 2009, a group of 34 people from Iraq returned spontaneously to Turkey, but this was not sustainable. In July 2010, all returnees went back to the Makhmour Camp in northern Iraq. UNHCR was not involved in these movements. There were no new developments concerning return to Turkey since 2011.
UNHCR has expressed its availability to discuss with concerned authorities on the provisions of a voluntary repatriation agreement to allow the refugees from Iraq to return voluntary in safety and dignity.
