SGBV prevention and response

2021

Overall, the prevention and response activities to gender-based violence cases were carried out as planned. Recruitment and deployment of dedicated staff, including psychosocial agents in the various prefectures were implemented. Below are some key points on the achievements.

Revitalization/establishment of local protection committees (LPC):

In the 4 targeted prefectures, the existing LPCs were identified and then revitalized as a first step. Then, the teams proceeded to create new committees whose establishment was piloted by the communities themselves in localities where there were none and whose geographical location and/or protection situation required them. At the end of these two exercises, 18 local protection committees were operational (eight of which work exclusively on the gender-based violence), notably in the localities of Baboua, Baoro, Berberati, Boda, Bogangolo, Bouar, Cantonnier, Carnot, Damara, Gallo, Gamboula, Lesse, Mbaïki, Moboma, Mongoumba, Ngoto Sosso Nakombo and Yole. UNHCR strengthened the capacities of 18 local protection committees on the concept of gender-based violence as well as prevention and response, in order to enable them to carrying out prevention actions, and identify cases of gender-based violence and initiate response actions.

Creation of listening centres:

The creation of listening centres took into account the mapping of gender-based violence stakeholders. UNHCR focused on areas where this service is not available and where there is a need. Thus, three listening centres were created in Baboua, Gamboula and Mbaïki. With the support of the UNHCR team, which made a building available in Berbérati, an additional centre was created in this locality, bringing the total number of Counselling centres to four.

Psychosocial agents (PSAs):

Six PSAs were recruited and trained on case management and the required tools. These arrangements put in place by UNHCR in order to provide assistance to gender-based violence survivors allowed UNHCR to ensure the care of 566 survivors during 2021.
