UNHCR continued to strengthen the services for persons with specific needs, targeting the most vulnerable persons with disability and older persons at risk. This was achieved through the provisions of a holistic case management, including targeted interventions such as psychosocial support, home-based care, specialized care services, material support, and facilitation access to services. The case management process included identification, assessment, case intervention planning, intervention, and follow-up.
In 2021, a total of 2,800 Syrian persons with specific needs benefited from individual case management including counselling and related services. Furthermore, rehabilitative therapy, including physio, speech therapy, skills development and home-based care, were provided to 729 Syrian refugees with specific needs. Moreover, a total of 1,037 Syrian refugees with disabilities received assistive devices and medical equipment.
Community-based refugee workers were able to extend psychosocial support to more than 961 Syrians affected by COVID-19 related challenges, while also responding to 53 emergencies affecting Syrian households. UNHCR also issued 246 Syrian refugees with one-time emergency assistance payments and transportation assistance to help the households recover from sudden protection incidents.
