Main documents
Most refugees in Brazil come from Venezuela, through the northern state of Roraima, while other people in need of international protection arrive from countries like Afghanistan, Burkina Faso, Haiti, Iraq, Mali, Syria, and Ukraine - some of them through humanitarian visas.
UNHCR provides protection and assistance, including emergency shelter and cash support, to vulnerable individuals and closely collaborates with Brazilian authorities for policy development, capacity building, and advocacy to ensure inclusive refugee policies. Additionally, UNHCR partners with civil society, including refugee-led organizations, the private sector, academia, and development actors to enhance access to rights and self-reliance opportunities for refugees and others in need of international protection.
