Finland is a leader in promoting the inclusion of persons with disabilities in humanitarian responses around the world.


Finland is a staunch supporter of UNHCR and a key ally, providing multifaceted assistance ranging from resettlement to political and financial support.

Finland has been a member of UNHCR's Executive Committee since 1979, and the country’s support for UNHCR has been crucial in advocating for displaced and stateless people in humanitarian crises.

Finland is a leader in promoting the inclusion of persons with disabilities in humanitarian responses around the world and a strong advocate for the rights of women and girls, including gender equality, comprehensive SRHR services and protection from SGBV for displaced women and girls.

At the Global Refugee Forum, Finland also underlined its support for solutions and funding in protracted humanitarian crises, highlighting inclusive refugee responses, and self-reliance.  

Multi-year flexible funding is an integral part of Finland's partnership with UNHCR. It enables us to rapidly and effectively protect and assist forcibly displaced people when new emergencies arise, as well as in protracted and deteriorating situations which receive less public attention.

Finland's targeted funding, including support to UNHCR’s Covid-19 appeal, has supported critical UNHCR programs, including education for children who had to abandon school due to conflict and COVID-19, vocational training for adults, and supporting displaced people with disabilities. In addition, Finland provides technical support to improve disability inclusion in all UNHCR activities.
