For over 70 years, the U.S. has been a steadfast and robust ally of UNHCR, serving as a member of the Advisory Committee since 1951 and a founding member of the governing Executive Committee since 1959.
With vital U.S. contributions, UNHCR is able to realize its mandate to protect, assist, and seek solutions for refugees and forcibly displaced persons through the provision of lifesaving humanitarian aid in emergencies, protection for unaccompanied and vulnerable children, access to critical documentation, support for voluntary repatriation and more.
In 2024, the United States contributed a total of $2.052 billion, 10% of which was flexible funding. Contributions from the United States reach nearly every facet of UNHCR’s work, allowing us to respond quickly in emergencies and maintain essential activities in protracted crises.
Beginning in 2024, the United States has provided generous support for UNHCR operations to implement long-term solutions for refugees and internally displaced people. With this support, UNHCR’s solutions projects focus on self-reliance, resilience and integration of refugees, promoting regional stability, sustainable economic growth, and long-term solutions for displaced populations around the globe.
