Located in Rome, UNCHR’s Multi-Country Office for Italy, the Holy See, and San Marino works to support refugees, asylum-seekers, and stateless people, with a focus on three critical areas:
- Enhancing the protection environment and government policies for forcibly displaced and stateless people to ensure they meet international protection standards.
- Ensuring refugees, asylum-seekers, stateless people and host communities have access to sustainable solutions. This also includes ensuring access to national systems, and a consolidated mechanism for identifying and referring people with specific needs.
- Strengthening opportunities for complementary pathways and inclusion of forcibly displaced and stateless people.
These efforts are strengthened through strategic partnerships with government bodies, municipalities, NGOs, the private sector, the Holy See, and faith-based organizations, as well as enhanced public engagement and media outreach.
Additionally, UNHCR aims to enhance Italy’s role as a global UNHCR partner by increasing national investment in inclusion and complementary pathways, in line with commitments made at the Global Refugee Forum and the European Union level.
