As a member of UNHCR's Advisory Committee since 1951, and a founding member of UNHCR's Executive Committee since 1959, Italy’s support for UNHCR’s mandate in the diplomatic, media and public spheres has been steadfast and robust. The country's network of public officials and numerous Italian NGOs involved in humanitarian assistance make it a reliable partner for UNHCR across all the regions where the Agency operates.
Italy's financial support directly contributes to UNHCR's activities on the ground, saving lives and offering solutions in times of emergencies. In 2023, funding from Italy supported humanitarian responses to new and protracted displacement crises in Burkina Faso, Chad, Lebanon, Libya, Moldova, Niger, Poland, and Sudan, among others. The Italian government contributed to UNHCR's protection activities and helped us to prevent and respond to gender-based violence, providing shelter, and healthcare, while also fostering socio-economic inclusion and livelihoods.
Italy's dedication to finding solutions is proven by a commitment to resettlement, humanitarian corridors and evacuations, labour pathways, and university corridors, providing hope and a way out of dire conditions for those who need it most.
