Impact indicators were assessed using results of the 2017 annual nutrition survey conducted in Dadaab refugee camps. The overall prevalence of global acute malnutrition (GAM) among children 6 to 59 months only slightly decreased to 9.7 per cent in 2017 compared to 10.2 per cent in 2016. The prevalence of severe acute malnutrition (SAM) among children below 6 to 59 months also marginally decreased to 1.4 per cent in 2017 compared to 1.5 per cent in 2016. This indicates that the situation in terms of acute malnutrition was largely unchanged in Dadaab. The GAM prevalence also remained below the 15 per cent WHO threshold of emergency. However, in terms of the targets set for 2017, the 7 per cent target for GAM was not achieved, while the 0.8 per cent target for SAM was also not achieved. The prevalence of anaemia among children between 6 and 59 months has been increasing particularly since 2015. However, the prevalence significantly increased to 60.7 per cent in 2017 from 49.7 per cent in 2016, a situation which is undesirable given that the critical threshold, which was also the target for 2017, is 40 per cent.
