For the prevention of gender-based violence in emergency responses, UNHCR developed and adopted a strategy focused on the establishment of holistic care services as well as a survivor-centred approach. Thus, the response was organized around health, psychosocial and legal services, and socioeconomic reintegration. UNHCR implemented a referral system to One-Stop Centres and other support structures to improve the quality of services provided to survivors and to better coordinate joint gender-based violence prevention and response measures. Throughout the year, UNHCR assisted eight refugee survivors of gender-based violence, and distributed dignity kits to 86 refugees, as well as 42 baby kits. UNHCR provided returnees with 73 dignity kits and 49 baby kits. Finally, UNHCR distributed 273 dignity kits and 75 baby kits for IDPs, and 68 dignity kits and 34 baby kits for host population members. In addition, UNHCR organized a total of 223 awareness sessions on gender-based violence with the participation of 2,841 refugees, including 592 men, 59 boys, 43 girls, and 2,147 women. The sensitization sessions also included returnees, of which 19 girls, 51 boys, 116 men and 161 women, as well as the host community with the participation of 40,664 individuals. It is also worth mentioning that UNHCR organized and broadcast 180 radio messages on gender-based violence and appointed six people of trust for the referral of gender-based violence cases among urban refugees in Bamako. Finally, UNHCR built the capacity of 250 State and community actors on gender-based violence.
