UNHCR has been operating in the Philippines for over 40 years. For many years, its presence was limited to Manila with a focus on asylum seekers, refugees, broader asylum migration issues and statelessness.

The Philippines hosts an estimated 264,000 forcibly displaced. Of this figure, around 230,000 are internally displaced persons and around 3,800 are refugees and asylum-seekers.

UNHCR supports the Philippines in ensuring that national status determination procedures remain accessible to persons of concern. UNHCR also works to provide refugees and asylum-seekers access to rights, reduce statelessness, and deliver protection and humanitarian assistance in Mindanao.
