In its Strategic Directions 2022-2026, UNHCR identified several areas that would benefit from focused attention, and pledged to tackle them with discipline and unwavering commitment. UNHCR’s approach to five of these “Focus Areas” in 2024 is set out in this section of the Global Appeal.

The climate crisis is amplifying the drivers of forced displacement and increasing the need for humanitarian assistance and protection. Global needs in 2024 amount to $1.074 billion.
In 2024 it is predicted that the number of people displaced by violence and conflict will reach almost 63 million. $1.975 billion is required to meet their needs and respond to internal displacement.
UNHCR aims for 70,000 people to acquire a nationality in 2024. UNHCR seeks $151 million to tackle statelessness, which deprives people of the basic rights and protections associated with nationality.
Humanitarian action cannot be the sole tool for addressing forced displacement and statelessness, and UNHCR is working to deepen the involvement of development actors, a powerful force in fragile economies.
