Child protection

2020

The needs of unaccompanied and separated children and children living with disabilities were sufficiently considered in 2020. Of the 12 cases requiring the determination of the best interests of the child planned for Brazzaville and Gamboma, only one case was examined in Brazzaville (a completion rate of 8.33%). Some 48 best interest assessments were completed. The assessment and determination of the best interests of the child has resulted in finding durable and timely solutions to children's problems. Panels were held for the granting of monetary support through cash-based interventions for the benefit of 8 of the 10 children targeted.

1,000 children without birth certificates have been identified, and advocacy with local authorities facilitated the issuance of 300 birth certificates for the benefit of refugee and asylum-seeking children.

Individual case visits made it possible to identify the needs of children at risk, in terms of the protection and assistance they need. Financial assistance to host families helped pay the children's school fees, buy clothes, and provide food. Birth certificates have been issued for the benefit of many children, reducing the risk of statelessness. Parents as well as children understood their rights and took ownership of their promotion.
