Civil status documentation

2015

75 refugee children were registered and received birth certificate, allowing them to enjoy one of the most important human rights. This birth certificate will allow them in the future to have access to protection (ID card) and assistance, to education and, more importantly, will prevent statelessness.

Despite advocacy efforts and funds provided to UNHCR’s partner in charge of birth certificates, the result is still poor. It can be explained by the difficulty to deal with state services and by the local habits, which tend to neglect follow up on the withdrawal of birth certificates before 3 months after the child’s birth.
