SGBV prevention and response

2017
  • The community's ability to support and respond effectively to SGBV is strengthened.  Stakeholders (members of the police force and other humanitarian actors) are trained on SGBV prevention and response and partnerships with other actors are optimized.
  •
  • Women and girls’ self-reliance is strengthened and risks related to the collection of firewood are reduced.
  •
  • Activities foreseen for South Sudanese refugees in 2017 will also include identification and the provision of a comprehensive assistance (medical, psychosocial, legal and socio-economic reintegration) to survivors whenever possible. UNHCR will also promote prevention within local communities (i.e. groups of men and boys, traditional and religious leaders) to encourage positive changes in attitudes and behaviours.
  •
  • To minimize the risks faced by women and girls and to provide safe environments and ensure safe access to domestic energy, UNHCR provides lighting and access to energy technologies and fuel (through clean cooking stoves and “briquette” fabrication projects). It also helps to realize other rights related to health, nutrition, education and livelihoods as well as decreasing tensions that may arise between refugees and host communities due to competition over energy resources.
