Reception conditions

2017

UNHCR in Bosnia and Herzegovina will assist in covering running and maintenance costs of two reception centres, including contributions for social and psychosocial assistance. Also the office will advocate for the best interest determination (BID) assessment for children of concern and for information on asylum to be regularly available at the borders and the detention centre.

The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Montenegro shall further focus on strengthening of the system in place through development and implementation of by-laws and standard operating procedures regulating the reception procedure and services. Subject to the massive influx of asylum-seekers, the reception assistance would be amended/increased accordingly.

UNHCR will advocate for the improvement of quality of interpretation services linked to reception in Kosovo (S/RES/1244(1999)) and Montenegro. In both countries the list of prioritized response includes capacity building of the relevant government bodies covering the areas of reception conditions and monitoring activities. In Kosovo (S/RES/1244(1999)), conclusion of agreements between reception facilities and relevant institutions providing activities for children will be pushed forward while the office in Serbia intends to organise language classes and recreational activities specially focusing on children and women.

Provision of adequate treatment to people with special needs and most vulnerable ones stays high on the UNHCR’s regional priority list. Engagement in this area includes a number of concerned international and national players specialised in this sensitive field.
