Resettlement

2017

Ensuring staff capacity is essential in order to carry out the necessary resettelemtn work, therefore the recruitment of several staff memebers, including resettlement officers in various field offices, is being prioritized in 2017.

Furthermore, a verification exercise to take place as of October 2016 should support resettlement work. The last verification exercise was conducted in 2011-2012 and there is an identified need to update information in proGres to facilitate faster processing and address pending registration issues. By 2017, resettlement capacity in Rwanda will have been evenly balanced, given the current adjustments of staffing within resettlement units of each field locations. The upscaling of resettlement submissions from Rwanda will continue to grow. It is estimated that submission targets of 3,750 individuals will most likely be met by January 2017. Resettlement efforts will continue to focus on the protracted Congolese population and will be used strategically as a protection and durable solution tool to enhance the protection space and complement child protection, sexual and gender-based violence and shelter strategies and provision of services in the camp.
